Picture Stories Weeks 4 and 5

Over the past few weeks I finished up photographing Sandra Carter's story and started exploring a new story about WKU senior Morgan Gruner. Morgan is involved in a group here on campus called CORE that is basically all about encouraging students to visit nursing homes on a regular basis and hang out with the residents. It's been a really cool story to get involved in because a few of the students, including Morgan, have been visiting some of the senior citizens for several years now and have become quite close. So here are a few shots from Morgan and Sandra's stories! #ilovepeople

In addition to those stories, I've been trying to start shooting more sports. Sports are definitely not my strong point, so it's a work in progress--lots and lots of room for improvement! But here are a few attempts at basketball, softball, and baseball.

Picture Stories: weeks 1-3

The first story I am photographing for my picture stories class is the tale of this wonderful woman named Sandra Carter, the art teacher at one of the high schools here in Bowling Green. Art education and support for the arts are things that have always been relatively important to me and everyday I get to shoot with her I am reminded of this. She's so passionate about who she is and does such a great job of connecting with her students. It's incredible. She paints and plays and teases and teaches and listens and shows and creates and explores and asks and so many other things. Here are some shots from this week that I liked :) #ilovepeople

Fall 2013

Here's some work from last semester. It was kind of a crazy time and I didn't get around to posting very much, so here's a great big bunch of pretty things. And hopefully this semester I'll be more on top of my life. :)

September 17, 2013

This week I got to go shoot the Commodore Classic, a cross country meet hosted by Vanderbuilt University in Nashville. I followed around the University of Central Arkansas team and had a lot of fun hanging out with them and documenting their girls' race. Check it out :)

Women's cross country teams prepare at the starting line before beginning the 5000 meter race at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 13, 2013 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn.
University of Central Arkansas senior Kayla Nehus puts on her spikes before running the 5000 meter race at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 13, 2013 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn.

University of Central Arkansas's Brooke Cassar crosses the finish line of the women's collegiate cross country 5000 meter race at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 13, 2013 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn. Cassar took first place with a time of 17:03. This was only Cassar's second collegiate level cross country race. She took first place in the first one she ran in, as well. Winning the races makes her "so happy, over the moon," said Cassar.

Women's cross country teams wait at the starting line for the gun shot that will signal the beginning of the 5000 meter race at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 13, 2013 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn.

A University of Central Arkansas women's cross country runner drinks water after finishing the 5000 meter race at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 13, 2013 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn.

University of Central Arkansas sophomore Madison Sewell stretches before the girls 5000 meter race in the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 13, 2013 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn. Sewell has been running for seven years and this is her first year on a team at the collegiate level.

Peppers

This semester I'm taking a lighting class! It's totally new and totally intimidating but totally fun. Our first assignments involved shooting peppers, so check it out.

IWGBTP: Last weeks of Philmont

For now this is it. I spent a summer living in Neverland--a complete fairy tale--photographing adventure after adventure as I went. I did a lot, explored a lot, learned a lot, grew a lot, and gave a lot. Hopefully this isn't the last time I'll experience that and hopefully these aren't the last photos I'll ever post of Philmont. But until then, it's time to put a bookmark in the fairy tale. These are some of my favorite photos from my last weeks in New Mexico. I hope you find them most enjoyable :)

See you later, Philmont.
